The Special Olympics Opening Ceremony took place in front of the Royal Crescent in Bath.

MBC were delighted to support the special olympics coming to the City of Bath and for recommending Clyve and Soul City Foundation to the organisers. Clyve Waite and Jon Birch wrote an anthem for the Special Olympics Bath 2013.

MBC are pleased that several businesses that we have worked with and that have supported our previous Charity fundraising events became sponsors of the Special Olympics 2013.

Special singing guests at the event was the world famous Susan Boyle and the wonderful Jazz Singer Clare Teal.

VIP guests to the Opening Ceremony include Patrons Lawrie McMenemy, Actor Colin Salmon, Bath Olympians Jason Gardener MBE and Amy Williams MBE and the ceremony was officially opened by Sport Minister Hugh Robertson.

About the Special Olympics:
Founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics has been offering women, men, and children with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competitions in Olympic-style sports since 1968. There are more than 32 individual and team sports – from Alpine Skiing to Volleyball – provide quality training and well-matched sporting events. Win or lose, the goal is always to be brave in the attempt!

Special Olympics Mission Statement:
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. They give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share personal skills, gifts of spirit, and friendship with their families, their fellow Special Olympics athletes, and the world.

• 600 coaches
• 3,500+ family members and supporters
• 500 event volunteers
• 120 sports officials
• 17 regional delegations from across Great Britain
