Stentorphon Opera

The landmark tower of St. Stephen’s Church, Lansdown was bathed in red, green and gold on a March Sunday evening. These are the colours of Stentorphon Opera who, supported by the Friends of St Stephen’s Church, presented the Gala Concert for Bath. And what a performance with the acoustics tested to the limit as renditions from the Mikado, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, La Boheme, La Traviata, the Merry Widow and many others showed the incredible talents of this recently formed group! Stentorphon Opera is a Bath based repertory company led by Australian born soprano and conductor, Ruth McKibbin. Along with Bath born promoter and tenor, Michael Smith, they aim to feature local performers in addition to London based artists in a venture that intends to extend patronage of opera in Somerset.

The evening provided an important opportunity for our performers to display their talents. The excellent facilities for the singers and the coordinated efforts of the Friends of St Stephens ensured a fine evening of music. We feel that the event was a great success and we are looking forward to future collaboration.’
